Schedule Set For Celebration 2018
The schedule for Celebration 2018, the annual Independence Day celebration at Martinsville Speedway, has been set.
The July 3 event, which is free thanks to more than 70 local businesses who sponsor the event, will start at 3 p.m. when the carnival rides open.
The grandstands will open at 6 p.m. and the entertainment will begin at 8, with fireworks following the concert from legendary R&B group The Spinners.
“We are looking forward to once again hosting the people of Martinsville and Henry County for a fun, free and safe way to celebrate our great nation and the freedoms we all enjoy,” Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell said. “There is something for everyone at Celebration, and we hope that everyone comes out to take advantage of it.”
Known for a catalog that includes seven songs that reached the top-5 on the Billboard Hot 100, including the hit “Rubberband Man,” The Spinners were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999 and was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
Band member Marvin Taylor is looking forward to not only the venue, but the people as well.
“One of the great things about being part of The Spinners is traveling to new and exciting places like Martinsville Speedway,” Taylor said. “(We’re) looking forward to meeting and making new friends in your city."
For band member Jessie Peck, sharing a venue where so many legends have raced has him excited.
“I’m looking forward to performing at Martinsville Speedway, where so many great racers have entertained fans since 1947,” Peck said. “We will be surrounded by its historic half-mile track, fans and an evening of pure enjoyment!"
The event will conclude at 11 p.m.
