Martinsville Speedway Tests New LED Lighting System

The spotlight, or spotlights to be more specific, shined on Martinsville Speedway Wednesday night, as four of the track’s new LED light towers were powered on. The lights, located along the backstretch of the half-mile racetrack, gave engineers and track staff the first glimpse of what the “Light Up Martinsville” project will look like when complete.

The six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion won the Goody’s Fast Relief 500, despite a host of potentially Chase-damaging circumstances, to clinch a spot in the Championship 4 at Homestead-Miami Speedway next month. There, he will vie for his historic seventh title, which would place him in a tie with Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt for the most ever.
