Local Music Teacher To Perform National Anthem
Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell announced today that local Martinsville City School instrumental music teacher William Norris will perform the National Anthem on saxophone here Saturday, July 22 prior to the start of the Goody's 250 NASCAR Busch Series race.
Norris, who currently resides in Martinsville, is a graduate of Penn State and teaches instrumental music to fifth and sixth grade students within the Martinsville City School district and the Goody's 250 will be the first 'big' performance of his career.
"I am very excited about performing the anthem in front of the best fans in the world here at Martinsville," said the 24-year old musician. "I have never done anything like this before and it is a great opportunity for me."
The State College, Pennsylvania native as been playing the saxophone for over 16 years and has also perfected other musical instruments, including the clarinet and the flute.
"We're excited about having William Norris perform the national anthem prior to the Goody's 250," said Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell. "We are confident he will do a great job on the saxophone and we think our fans will enjoy hearing such a wonderful rendition."
The Goody's 250 NASCAR Busch Series action kicked off today with an open test session from noon until 7 p.m. Tomorrow, there will be a practice from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. followed by a rookie practice from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The final practice will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday admission is $5. Qualifying is set for 12:05 p.m. Saturday, July 22 with the Goody's 250 set to start at 3:30 p.m. Goody's 250 tickets are on sale and may be purchased by calling 877.RACE.TIX or visiting www.racetickets.com on the web. Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 the day of the event.
