Skinner Wins Kroger 200 To Sweep Martinsville

Race Results | Photos

Mike Skinner took the lead on lap 135 Saturday afternoon and held off Jack Sprague to win the Kroger 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway.

With the win, Skinner became the first driver to win three truck series races at the historic half-mile track and the first driver to sweep the two truck series races held each year at Martinsville.

And more importantly for Skinner, he re-took the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points lead. He entered the Kroger 200 14 points behind and finished the day 11 points ahead.

"For us to sweep both Martinsville races … that's pretty awesome," said Skinner, who won the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway in April. "Jack did a good job of driving us clean. I hope I can pay him back someday to help him win."

Skinner grabbed the lead from a faltering Terry Cook on the 135th lap and survived an onslaught of caution flags down the stretch for his 24th career victory.

Pole-sitter Jack Sprague finished second, giving Toyota the top two spots. Ron Hornaday Jr. finished third in a Chevy, while David Starr and Rick Crawford, both in Fords, rounded out the top five.

Sprague led the first 26 laps of the event before Cook moved to the point. Cook led 108 laps, but was involved in several incidents and wound up finishing 29th.

There were 13 caution periods for 70 laps.
