Sponsors Still Needed for Celebration 2016

Sponsors are still needed for Celebration 2016. The annual event is scheduled for July 4.

More than 50 sponsors have come together for Celebration 2016, the annual Independence Day Celebration held at Martinsville Speedway, but more are needed.

Jeb Bassett, of Basset Furniture, along with Eddie White, Tom Prato and Carter Underwood are working hard to ensure the money is raise to keep the event free.

“Clay Campbell has a very strong feeling that it should be a free event and we all agree,” Bassett said. “The local community has been challenged with adverse business situations over recent years and the time when family can come together and spend time together in a clean, safe environment; they shouldn’t have to be burdened with extra expenses.”

By sponsoring the event, local business are able to pool their resources to have one big celebration instead of lots of little ones.

“Most companies intend to do something for their employees around the Independence Day holiday,” Bassett said. “At one time there were different celebration events with fireworks; fair-type atmospheres. This allows everyone to come together and have one grand type celebration that now in its 18th year has become part of the local community.

“I had someone tell me just last week they’ve been to 16 (of the 17) Celebration events and look forward to them every year,” Bassett said. “This person was only 20-something years-old and so it’s definitely become a part of their life.”

The Gatlin Brothers are the headline band for Celebration 2016 and the festivities will include free carnival rides and fireworks. The family-friendly event is alcohol free.

The rides will open at 3 p.m. and music will start at 6:30 with The Rouges. The Gatlin Brothers will take the stage around 8:30 with fireworks following their performance.
