Fundraising for Celebration 2016 is Complete

More than 60 buisnesses have come together to raise the $100,000 for Celebration 2016. The annual event is on July 4.

Nearly 70 local business have come together to donate the more than $100,000 needed to put on the Celebration at Martinsville Speedway on July 4.

Jeb Bassett who leads the fundraising efforts, said the businesses who support the event are what has kept it going nearly two decades.

“I think we’ve said before how the community looks forward to this event, now going into its 18th year, as a July 4 holiday tradition,” Bassett said. “The local businesses support that and keep the tradition going for another year.”

The most important goal of celebration is to make sure everyone in Martinsville and Henry County can attend.

“Due to their generosity, we are able to keep this event FREE for the families of Martinsville and Henry County,” Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell said. “A heartfelt “Thank you” goes out to all who realize the importance of this celebration and feel the need to give back to the entire community to make this happen.

“While we’re able to provide the venue, this wouldn’t be possible without the local business community stepping forward and helping with the costs of Celebration. When you see 60 businesses coming together, some of which are competitors with each other, it shows how important this is to the community as a whole.”

The Gatlin Brothers will be the headline music act. There will also be free carnival rides, music from The Rogues and the biggest fireworks show in the area.

“I hope everyone comes out and enjoys it, on the fourth of July,” Bassett said. “I do hope they remember the purpose of the Fourth of July celebration; our independence both in the past and the current armed services all allow us to have our freedom and independence every day.”

Celebration 2016 kicks off at 3 p.m., when the carnival rides open. The music begins at 6:30 p.m., with The Gatlin Brothers taking the stage around 8:30 p.m. The night will culminate with the fireworks display at the conclusion of The Gatlin Brothers concert.
