Martinsville Speedway Announces 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Dates

The MENCS will return to Martinsville on March 25 and March 28.

Martinsville Speedway will once again host two Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race weekends in 2018, as NASCAR released the 2018 schedule on Tuesday.

The spring race weekend will be March 23-25, and will feature the STP 500, while the fall race weekend will be October 26-28, and will once again fall during NASCAR’s Playoffs.

“While we’re very much focused on this fall and our place in the Playoffs, it’s exciting to know our dates for 2018 and to know we’re keeping our spots on the schedule,” Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell said. “Not only does it help us with planning, more importantly, it really gives our fans time to start making their plans for next year.”

One notable change to the schedule is that Richmond International Raceway will move into the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, making Virginia the only state with two Playoff races in 2018.

“I think this move shows that NASCAR sees great value in short-track racing,” Campbell said. “Short-tracks produce the beating and banging that fans love and now they have two opportunities to see that in the Playoffs, both of which are right here in the Commonwealth.”

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series returns to Martinsville Speedway October 28 and 29 for the Old Dominion 500.

The race is the seventh race in  NASCAR’s Playoffs, where the winner could be the first to lock in a spot at the Championship Round at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Last year, Jimmie Johnson won his ninth grandfather clock, on the way to his record-tying seventh Cup Series Championship.
