The Spinners Set To Play Celebration 2018 at Martinsville Speedway
For 64 years, The Spinners have taken their iconic Rhythm and Blues sound across the world, but July 3rd will mark a first for the Detroit-based group, as they are set to headline Celebration 2018 at Martinsville Speedway.
Known for a catalog that includes seven songs that reached the top-5 on the Billboard Hot 100, including the hit “Rubberband Man,” the group was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999 and was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
“We’re really excited to bring The Spinners to Martinsville Speedway to play Celebration,” Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell said. “This day is all about celebrating America, and what better way to do that than by bringing and iconic piece of American music to an iconic venue like Martinsville Speedway.
“I think the crowd will certainly find themselves entertained - and dancing - no matter if they are age two or 102.”
Band member Marvin Taylor is looking forward to not only the venue, but the people as well.
“One of the great things about being part of The Spinners is traveling to new and exciting places like Martinsville Speedway,” Taylor said. “(We’re) looking forward to meeting and making new friends in your city."
For band member Jessie Peck, sharing a venue where so many legends have raced has him excited.
“I’m looking forward to performing at Martinsville Speedway, where so many great racers have entertained fans since 1947,” Peck said. “We will be surrounded by its historic half-mile track, fans and an evening of pure enjoyment!"
Sponsors are still needed to keep Celebration 2018 free. For information on how become a sponsor contact Jeb Bassett at Bassett Furniture.
In addition to The Spinners’ concert, there will be carnival rides and the area’s biggest fireworks show.
