Food Lion to Match Canned Food Drive Donations at Celebration 2019
Grocery store chain Food Lion will match the number of canned goods brought to Martinsville Speedway’s Celebration as part of the canned food drive during the Speedway’s annual Free Independence Day Celebration on July 4.
The canned food drive benefits Grace Network of Martinsville and Henry County at a time when the food pantry is most in need.
“We often see people bring food supplies by during the holiday season, and that’s great, but summer is such a critical time for us,” Tracey Hinchcliff, executive director for Grace Network said. “Kids are out of school, so that’s one or two meals that they aren’t getting every day, which increases the demand in our area. So, to have Food Lion come on board and support us, along with the community, that will go a long way.”
“This event has always been about the community and the canned food drive is a way we can all give back to those in need,” Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell said. “For Food Lion to step up and take part is huge. It shows not only do they realize the need, but that they’re also invested in the community as well.”
There will be multiple collection points for the canned goods.
In addition to the canned food drive, there will be some other changes to Celebration 2019.
The biggest change will come in the form of seating. Visitors will now sit in the Bill France Tower grandstands, located in turns 3 and 4. The change will create less walking for guests and puts everything in a more central, convenient location.
Additionally, the ADA parking will move from the traditional ADA lot, located on the Southside of the property, to the Driver/Owner lot located behind the Bill France Tower. Shuttle service will be provided.
“We are always looking to improve every event we have, and Celebration is no different,” Campbell said. “By moving everything to one location we’re making it easier for people to get from the rides to the concert and fireworks.”
Celebration will once again feature free carnival rides, music from ‘The Worx’ and ‘Chairmen of the Board’ and the largest fireworks show in the area.
Rides open at 3 p.m. with music starting at 6:30.
Fireworks will start after the conclusion of the music.
Celebration is free, thanks to the individuals and businesses that sponsor the event.
